This stunning allium is named after the song Pinball Wizard from the rock-opera “Tommy”, written by English rock band “The Who”. It’s a story about a former pinball champion, who cannot believe how good Tommy is, so he sings his song to him. It can only be magic – just like this fantastic silvery-lilac allium. Even an ornamental onion can create a bouquet of its own! The allium consists of the tightly packed cluster of hundreds small, star-shaped flowers that form a gigantic, round flower ball. This gorgeous allium blossoms during the whole month (between June and July) and reaches 80-90 cm in height.
Allium belongs to the same family as garlic and onion, that is why it’s called an “ornamental onion”. Make sure to plant your allium in a dry and well-drained (sandy) soil and open areas with full sun.
