Cyclamen hederifolium (synonym: cyclamen neapolitanum), also known as ivy-leaved cyclamen or sowbread, doesn’t really need to be introduced to real flower lovers. Cyclamen got their name from the colour. The name hederifolium comes from the way the leaves look like common ivy (hedera). This variety flowers from late summer until the first frost. The flowers have five pink petals with a streaky magenta V-shaped marking on the nose.
The hardy Cyclamen hederifolium only needs little care. Plant them in moist and preferably calcareous soil in a half-shaded place and cover it up in frost periods. If you also add a little compost once a year this cyclamen will naturalise. Your garden will be cyclamen-pink before you know it!
It is also possible to put the tuber in a pot or place it on the windowsill. The cyclamen will definitely show its beautiful flowers!
